Her versatility and range in her career as an artist is unmatched. Audra has been awarded seven Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award. In 2015, she was awarded an unprecedented six Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. The actress was also identified as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was received with the National Medal of Arts - the highest honor given in America for excellence in art and achievement - by the president Barack Obama. She is equally at home in television, film and Broadway. The luminous tone of her voice will make her an ideal performer on the stage. Alongside performing on stage, she has established a successful career which is a major performance and recording career. She frequently performs in top places. McDonald was born in Fresno California to a music family, completed the classical vocal training she received at the New York's Juilliard School. A year after graduating McDonald was awarded her Tony Award Best Performance for the Lead Actress of a Musical for her performance in Carousel for Lincoln Center Theater. Following four years of acting in Broadway's most acclaimed productions, Master Class by Terrence M. McNally (1996) in addition to Ragtime (1998) in 1998, she was awarded two more Tony Awards. The year 2004, she received the fourth Tony for her performance in the role that she portrayed alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun. When she was in 2012, she was a lead actor on stage in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess she won her fifth Tony and was awarded the first award in the leading actor category. The year 2014 saw her make Broadway history and became an official Tony Awards most decorated performer after she received the sixth Tony Award for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which also served as a basis for her Olivier Award-nominated performance in the 2017 season of London's West End. Aside from setting a record to win the most Tony Awards by acting performance, she also became the first person to win the four categories of acting. The credits she has in the theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night marked McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny on the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. It was the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years which initially introduced McDonald viewers to her talents as a dramatic actress. In 1999, she co-starred alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. The following year, she received her first Emmy award for her performance on the HBO film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning show Wit produced by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to network television in 2003 on the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and featuring Josh Brolin. McDonald became a character on The Bedford Diaries of the WB show The Bedford Diaries in early the year 2006. In the following season, she played a recurring character on NBC's Television show Kidnapped. In 2016, McDonald was nominated for the fourth Emmy Award for her role as a character in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, a special film. The Bite is a drama with six seasons based around an epidemic, produced with Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred with Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. McDonald was first seen as U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS law-and-order action thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In the year 2018, she returned to her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular in the series. Her performance received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. The actress is currently appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
