Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actor, singer, and model. She's best known for her role in Prince's 1984 movie Purple Rain as well as being the singer-in-chief of Apollonia 6, a girl group. The actor and singer named Apollonia by Prince became one of the many female musicians in the '80s who benefited from her relationship with Prince, the Purple One. Patricia Kotero began her acting and modeling career in Santa Monica California, in the latter part of the 1970s. She also appeared on CHiPS. In 1984 she landed the role of the lead female for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time she altered her name) as well as replacing Vanity in the female duo Vanity 6 singing with them in the movie with the title Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter on the soundtrack was a minor success for the trio, but as Prince's duet partner in Take Me with You she was more successful. Kotero was able to break up with Prince when they fell apart over the direction of Apollonia 6. Following her appearance in minor movies (and reportedly refusing to participate with the Purple Rain film Under the Cherry Moon) her name was mentioned and she was part of the 1985-1986 evening drama Falcon Crest. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988, but it was a fairly pedestrian collection of R&B/dance music that failed to attract the attention of the general audience. The album was quickly wiped from view. The following decade saw Apollonia continued to perform as an actress (if she was a bit off the radar), with minor television roles, films and even an exercise film. Apollonia produced a Spanish/English bilingual album called Stay With Me. After getting back to university and earning an award for filmmaking, she founded her own production business.
