Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from the household, the actress was grew up by her mother, godparents and grandmother. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined an actor in the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one few weeks, she realized it was not suitable for her. Ford decided to apply to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement after her third try made an application and secured a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. A classmate of hers included Shaun Dingwall, who would be later reprise her role as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1990. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate was a part of such television shows as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage as well as a part of the company's season 2000-2001. But Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
